Windows by default turns on a lot of shadows, fades, slides etc to menu items.

Most simply slow down their display.

To turn these Off Selectively -

Step 1 : Right click on the My Computer icon, Select Properties & Click on the Advanced tab.

Step 2 : Under Performance, click on the Settings button.

Step 3 : Select Adjust for Best performance.

Step 4 : My preference is to leave them all off, except for "Show shadows under mouse pointer and Show window contents while dragging".

Speeding Shut-Down Operation for Windows OS

By Clearing the Page File on Shutdown....

Step 1 : Click on the Start button & go to the Control Panel.

Step 2 : Open Administrative Tools & Select Local Security Policy.

Step 3 : In the tab select Local Policies & Click on Security Options.

Step 4 : In Right side menu - Right click on "Shutdown: Clear Virtual Memory Pagefile"

Step 5 : Select "Enable" & Reboot your PC.

Decreasing Windows OS Boot Time....

Micro$oft has made available a program to analyze and decrease the time that takes to boot  WindowsXP

The program is called BootVis

Step 1 : Extract(Decompress) the file using Winrar.

Step 2 : Run BOOTVIS.EXE

Step 3 : For a starting point, Run  Trace / Next Boot + Driver Delays

This will reboot your computer and provide a benchmark. After the reboot, BootVis will take a minute or two to show graphs of your System Startup.

Note how much time it took for your system to load....

Step 4 : Click on the Red Vertical Line

Step 5 : Then Run Trace / Optimize System

Step 6 : Re-Run the Next Boot + Drive Delays

Now check, how much time it is decreased.....

Mine went from approximately 45 seconds.

Youtube Trick: Watch Any Youtube Videos In Hi-Def Clarity

At the End of the YouTube link, just add this without space.....

" &fmt=18 " (without quotes)

After adding, your link should look like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxx_xxxxxx&fmt=18

And if u wanna download video then add ".mp4" extension at the end of the link, it will automatically start download when you open the link.
Generally YouTube provides ".flv" extension file of low quality but according to my way you can download file ".mp4" of high quality.

Note:
- High Definition Clarity can be observed if u have good net speed.
- It works only for files which are uploaded with supportable extensions.(Mostly works for all files)

Add "Safe Mode" To Your Regular Boot Menu

1. Open the System Properties dialog box. You can do this from Control Panel (click System).
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.
4. Click the Edit button under System Startup. This opens the boot.ini file in Notepad.
5. One line should end with "/fastdetect" (NOT "/fastdetect /sos"). Copy that line.
6. Paste the line you just copied below the original line. Change "WINDOWS=Microsoft XP Professional" to "WINDOWS=Safe Mode" and add the following text to the end of the line: /safeboot:minimal /sos /bootlog
7. Save the file and click OK to exit the dialog boxes.
   

Note: If you named the Windows XP installation folder something other than WINDOWS when you installed XP, that name will appear instead of WINDOWS in step 6.

Customize Your Windows Shutdown Time

Step 1.
Right Click on your desktop and choose "New->Shortcut".

Step 2.
In the box that says "Type the location of the shortcut",
type in "shutdown -s -t 120" (with out the quotation marks)
and click next.

Note: 120 is the amount of seconds before your
computer shuts down. So, 60 secs * 2 mins = 120 secs.

Step 3.
Make up a name for the shortcut and you're done.
You can change the icon by right clicking->properities->change icon-> browse.
